Jonny (19:43), Melody with Daniel and Michael (25:59)
Jonny headed up the stake 5k again this year. As predicted, the turn-out was low (no family fair was held this year in conjunction with the race), but the dozen of us that showed up enjoyed racing in our stomping grounds. Jonny and Jake Moir were neck and neck for first place the entire race, only coming in one second apart! (Jonny guesses Jake would beat him if he hadn't been up working the past 13 hours. There may need to be a rematch...) As for me, this was actually the first time I had ever run with the twins. They were good sports and only fussed when we passed the neighborhood park without stopping to play! I ran alongside 13-year-old Makayla Pitcher, enjoying her pace and her company. Julia was a great water-station-girl/cheerleader outside of our house. I'm not sure if this stake tradition will carry on, but it's always good to get a good run in with some good friends.

Alpine Days 5k
Grandma, Dad, Mom, Cami, Jonny with Daniel and Michael (22:47), Melody (22:47), Julia (39:17), and kids race for Gabe, Evy, Penny, and Link
What a race! And a few firsts to go with it. It was Julia's first 5k (she was amazing! It was NOT an easy course, and she kept at it) and the first time Jonny and I have crossed the finish line together. (He pushed the boys and I did my best to keep up. I did have a change to get ahead on the crazy steep cemetery hill. Otherwise those three boys might have left me in the dust!) And also extremely worth noting, there were four generations of runners in this 5k - from Grandma Julie to Mom to me to Julia! That's kind of amazing. And so fun! I placed first in my age group and got to stand up on the winners block with a high school friend (Larissa Chase) I haven't seen in years. We love Alpine!

Temple to Temple 5k
Jonny (17:35), Rudi, David and baby Leah
Jonny smoked this race! And he has a crazy fast new PR to prove it! Next year he'll definitely have to register with a chip timer so we can see how he places among the thousands that run/walk this big event. (There were an estimated 16,000 runners this year!) Go, Jonny, Go!

Mantua 5 Mile Dam Run
Grandma Julie, Amber, Emily, Melody (39:52)
Grandma Julie is back home after serving two missions, so we seized the opportunity to run a few races together this summer. Three of us sisters (accompanied by some of our very excited kids) took a little weekend trip to Logan to enjoy some quality time with Grandma and run the Mantua race. We stayed up too late, but were able to wake up and run the scenic route around the dam. Small-town races are my favorite ones. I placed in my age division (can't remember which place!) and loved running a race with family. It's been a few years!

Pony Express Days 5k
Jonny (18:50), Melody (21:55), Sarah, Rudi, and kids race for Julia, Gabe, Evy
I'm back! It's been a few years since my last race, and it felt so good to be running hard and challenging myself again. (Not that my daily life isn't a challenge... taking care of two toddlers and three energetic older kids wipes me out! Totally worth it, but still exhausting!) It was great to have Sarah and Rudi join us in our small town race. The rest of the day was spent partying with the Rejholecs who were in town. It was a great day, and we all slept well at the end!
